The Haryana government has started the first phase of the Global City project in Gurugram. This mixed-use development spans 1,000 acres along the Dwarka Expressway and will feature both residential and commercial spaces with modern infrastructure.
In the first phase, roads, electricity, water supply, and other essential infrastructure will be built on 587 acres by December 2026. This phase will cost ₹940 crore. Officials from HSIIDC (Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) said that the contractor has already started work on the site.
The Global City project will cover parts of Sectors 36, 36B, 37, and 37B. It will include commercial towers, offices, residential buildings, retail spaces, hospitals, schools, a center for innovation, start-ups, an incubation zone, hospitality and cultural areas, green spaces, water bodies, and an internal mass rapid transportation system. In total, it will have 12 million square meters of built-up area. The state government has been promoting this project both in India and abroad over the past three years. The project was planned in 2019, and the contract for the first phase was awarded last September.
Yash Garg, managing director of HSIIDC, said the first phase will include 13 km of internal roads, landscaping across 82 acres, a 26-km storm water drain network, an 11.96-km potable water network, a 12-km recycled water pipeline, and a 10-km utility tunnel, all to be completed by December 2026. Additionally, three high-tension power lines passing through the site will be relocated, with one to be shifted by August 31 next year.
HSIIDC will manage and maintain the Global City until December 31, 2033, at no extra cost to the property owners. Starting in 2034, maintenance fees will be based on the actual costs incurred, proportionate to the built-up area.
In related news, the state government has increased HSIIDC’s working capital by ₹1,500 crore to support infrastructure development in the Global City and IMT Sohna.
